Tradestaff and The Safety Team are excited to be attending the Site Safe Evening of Celebration for another year as a Finalist in the Safety Contribution Award for a Team!
What Are The Site Safe Awards?
The Site Safe Evening of Celebration event provides teams and individuals an opportunity to showcase their efforts in making a difference in the health and safety landscape in the construction industry.
The annual Site Safe Evening of Celebration event aims to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions and efforts that teams, businesses and people are making day in, day out to create safer and healthier workplaces. It’s an exciting night to be a part of as Site Safe also celebrate graduates from their Health and Safety in Construction programme.
For Tradestaff, having supplied the construction industry for over 28 years across New Zealand, it’s a great opportunity for us to hear what’s happening in the industry, what developments have taken place and how other businesses are creating new and better ways of being safe at work.
This will be the 19th year that Site Safe has held its annual celebration of health and safety in the construction sector and the second time Tradestaff has been named as a finalist!
The Safety Contribution Award For A Team
This award is for a team who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to health and safety in construction. The award acknowledges the team who “lights the spark” in other people’s minds and inspires positive change and action in health and safety.
The Safety Team at Tradestaff have worked hard to improve the Health and Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the business by identifying unique trends, requirements and challenges for all stakeholders. Regular meetings, utilising a variety of communication methods and being able to support preventative initiatives have led to positive examples of clients, consultants and on-site workers entrenching safety as part of their day.
Health And Safety Is A Priority At Tradestaff
In 2024, Tradestaff were finalists in the Leadership award after Tradestaff invested in safety by employing a second, full time, H&S professional. This investment allowed The Safety Team to increase focus on training and prevention, compliance, giving support to workers rehabilitating from injury and managing ongoing H&S SOPs.
The recruitment industry is all about people, therefore Tradestaff have created our H&S SOPs heavily orientated around interaction and engagement and The Safety Team have this front of mind whenever they are reviewing systems.
Focusing on three key groups—Candidates, Clients, and Consultants— Tradestaff has implemented initiatives that not only promote safer outcomes on-site but also drive cultural change in health and safety. Ultimately, The Safety Team have a lot of knowledge of HSWA, but it does not serve safer outcomes on-site if we can’t create a climate where the people doing the work understand how to apply it. Senior Leadership, H&S Representatives, and Branch Consultants have all worked hard in committing to best practices within the Recruitment industry each day.
Tradestaff works with a diverse group of people. This is true not only of our workers, but also of our consultants and clients that we engage with daily as well. By utilising technology, our business systems and modern communication tools, we are always striving to improve communication - one of the most important health and safety measures, and develop better methods and systems around making sure the right message reaches the right people.
The Safety Team has also looked outside of the business to those who are championing safety in their area of expertise. Work Should Not Hurt focuses on the importance of movement to reduce stress on one’s body when working in the trades. CHASNZ have developed tools such as the Energy Wheel to help workers identify risks and how to work in a safer way around them. Mates in Construction have brought their model over from Australia to get in front of workers and have raw discussions around mental health in construction. The Cancer Society has incredible knowledge and tools for understanding how to make healthy choices in everyday life. And Rafael from Live Well Build Well talks passionately about keeping mentally fit throughout your week in construction. These and others kindly gave their time by coming and speaking at the local Tradestaff branch for the Quarterly H&S Worker Catch-Up.
The Site Safe Awards evening is a great opportunity for us to showcase Tradestaff’s safety culture, as well as engage with others from within the construction sector around what good Health & Safety looks like. Thank you to Site Safe and the sponsors!
